Raw natural dyestuffs ***NEW PRODUCTS***

Raw natural dyestuffs vary in concentration, may take longer to process and can be messier but many people enjoy the authentic feel of raw materials. Although quantities can vary quite considerably between dyestuffs, for a medium shade we suggest using 20g cochineal, 50g logwood or fustic chips or 100g madder to dye 100g fibre. Save the leftover dyestuff as often there will be enough colour in the dyebath for a paler second batch!

Natural dyestuffs can be successfully mordanted with alum or aluminium acetate (used in food production). Used on their own or combined with our natural dye extracts, they are an invaluable addition to any natural dyer's cupboard.
