This British fibre from the UK rare breed Bluefaced Leicester sheep is medium/long-stapled and lustrous with a slightly creamier colour than the merino. The longer staple of 7.5 - 12cm makes it ideal for smoother, worsted spun yarns which preserve the natural lustre, although a wide range of yarns can be spun. For yarns with good draping qualities this fibre is a good choice. It takes dye very well and can be felted, although this may take a little longer than with shorter-stapled fibres such as merino.
